Mill Manager Employment Opportunity

The Harrop Procter Community Cooperative (HPCC) is seeking a Mill Manager for its Harrop Procter Forest Products sawmill operation.

HPCC is a community service cooperative, managing the Harrop Procter Community Forest and operating its milling division, Harrop Procter Forest Products (HPFP). One of the earliest community forests in BC; its forest operations’ harvesting strategy prioritizes watershed protection, wildfire risk mitigation and climate change adaptation. HPCC has created a strong reputation for progressive forestry practices.

The HPFP sawmill was established in 2009 as a vehicle to maximize value from forest operations and provide sustainable, well-paid employment in the community. It is a very small custom milling operation, generating just over $1M in sales and producing 400,000 – 500,000 bd ft annually. Recent investments in upgrading equipment and adding capacity for processing waste products are expected to add the potential for new products and opportunities.

The Mill Manager is responsible to the Board for providing leadership to all aspects of mill operations, aligned with our cooperative values. The position requires the ability to balance good management practices, innovative thinking, great customer relations and effective team building in the context of a small, community-owned wood products operation.

This is a regular, full-time position located in the community of Harrop – Procter, on the shores of Kootenay Lake. Salary will be commensurate with skills and experience and a modest benefits package is offered. If you are an experienced manager, knowledgeable of community forests, cooperatives, and values-based businesses, we’d love to talk to you.
